Pacific Coast Ride

With son Michael just back from Afghanistan and on leave, (Michael has also served in Iraq), we decided to take a ride up the California coast. Michael only had a week of leave so we made this a 3 day event. The weather was great, although it was foggy along  PCH. But then, it's always foggy along PCH.
.. this time of year

We made a quick detour to the La Purisima Mission near Lompoc, CA. Of all the missions this one is in it's original setting. Michael and Mum in front of the chapel.

The beautiful chapel at the La Purisima Mission. This is my favorite of all the missions and I have been to all 21. http://www.lapurisimamission.org/

We stopped for lunch at the world famous Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurant in Buellton, CA. This is a must visit and eat stop.  www.peasoupandersens.net/

We stayed the first night at the Rose Garden Inn,  Santa Maria. Jocko's is just up the road.  LINK

Dinner at the renowned Jocko's in Nipomo, CA. Julie has been telling me about Jocko's for years.

WOW! Jocko's wonderful Spencer steak!!! Yummy!!!

Day #1. 222 miles

Breakfast at Morro Bay. Julie and son Michael.

Big Sur

.

Big Sur. You can't beat the California Coast. The ride up PCH (Pacific Coast Highway, Cal #1) is breathtaking. Julie got to do all the sightseeing, I got to keep my eyes on the winding road. .Day #2, 285 Miles

We spent the night at the charming Motel 6 in Paso Robles.

In the morning we stopped in Cholame for breakfast. The Jack Ranch Cafe on Hwy 46 is awesome. Great Food!!!! It is also a James Dean Memorial. It is near this spot Dean died in a horrible car crash in 1955. The memorial is at the right of the photo.

Us In front of the James Dean Memorial. Don't laugh at the Sportster, we've put almost 60K miles on her in just a little over 2 years. Day #3. 309 miles. Don't ever enter the LA area on I5 in the afternoon. That's why we took the round about route. No traffic, beside, we stopped at the Screaming Chicken in Devore for a cold one!! 816 miles Total.
